Musk reported hop & jump tests in late 2018/early 2019, and Gwynne Shotwell added that an orbital test was possible in 2020. Both report that the first ship is under construction, and previous statements say the spaceship factory is near to the Port of LA.

Further, NASASpaceFlight.com is reporting a BFR factory at KSC is in negotiations; SpaceX, Space Florida and the US Air Force being the parties. Possible location: near Blue Origin's factory in Exploration Park.
