Okay, so Centaurus A (NGC 5128) is the nearest large elliptical galaxy. Can anyone tell me offhand what the second nearest large elliptical galaxy is?

It might be virgo M 87 the Giant Elipltical

but there are many others, small one. E0 corresponding to almost spherical to no flattening and E7 to a very elongated ellipse, the small dim dwarfs are like over grown globular clusters

There are others like NGC 4406 the leo dwarf, NGC 5078 (plus IC 879), Messier 89 is perhaps E0-1 and Messier 86 could be E3, a giant elliptical galaxy named NGC4881 is at the edge of the giant Coma Cluster of Galaxies,

M32 a companion to M31 is also eliptical in nature.

M110 is also Eliptical about 2.9 M light yrs away, but it is not giant is size

Centaurus A is the second nearest large elliptical galaxy. Maffei I (http://www.anzwers.org/free/universe/galgrps/maffei.html) is the nearest large elliptical.
