Is there any way we can hope to communicate with aliens? Will they have a concept of language as we understand it, or something even more alien?

Interesting article.

I've always been very skeptical of humanity's ability to decode an alien language, after all we have several different species on out own planet that use their own primitive racial language (whales, dolphins even other great apes) and we've yet to decipher those. What does it say about our ability when animals can learn the meaning of some of our speech and hand signals yet we fail to comprehend theirs? :)
