Hi again:

Back from a rather difficult two-week-battle with my boss (World War IV? ;) )

I have a question regarding the Apollo Project but since it's not really about any conspirancy, I decided to post it here.

It seems that during the Apollo Project some personality visited Cape Kennedy (or was it in Houston? I really don't know), saw a janitor sweeping the floor and asked him what he was doing, the janitor promptly answered "sending a man to the moon!". Can Jay (or anybody) give me details of this anecdote (whether it's true or not, and, if it's true, the actual info on it)?

Thanks in Advance

I remember this story. It seems a journalist has asked the janitor.

Just sounds like a new variant on a very old story. (http://www.lmlc.org/bread/03-03-04.html)

Well a little pride isn't bad.

At the faculty where I study, the students speak of the A380 as "our" airbus (because of the Glare). Not that I have contributed anything to Glare, but it's developed at the faculty where I study, hence..

The same counts for other airplane models which have been (to various extents) designed at the faculty. Like in "we designed the Extra 300".

Which of course makes me wonder how will be my next battle with the boss (World War V!) ;)

Where did you come by that link? I used to pass the church that runs that site virtually every day (It's across the main parking lot from my University).

Remembering the anecdote as I originally heard it, I Googled on "building a great cathedral."

My father got his master's degree from Virginia Tech, and I grew up about thirty miles from there (in Roanoke, VA).

President (the German one) Köhler yesterday held a speech with regards to the economic situation here in Germany. Closing his speech, he recited this story and attributed it to president Kennedy, when visiting Cape Canaveral:

http://www.bundespraesident.de/-,2.622835/Rede-von-Bundespraesident-Hors.htm

I don't know how well speechwriters of a president check their sources before quoting...

I know we discussed this topic in the Lunar Conspiraces forum. I'll try to find it.

Really, any Apollo related topics should be posted in LC or at Apollohoax (where the mood isn't tainted by the St Paddy's Day Scandal), especially if you want a response from Jay.

Ok. I'll try the ApolloHoax Forum as the LC CLEARLY states that it's ONLY for Apollo related conspirancies, but just in case, how can I post at LC and make it point to THIS thread in THIS forum?

Thanks in advance

Sigma,

I think the constraint is so that other Forum Topic areas get Lunar Conspiracy Info and argument. We bring up Non conspiracy Apollo stuff all the time over there.

Apollohoax uses phpBB just like here so to link to the thread just do this:(url=http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=20399&) thread from BABB (/url) except replace the ' ( ' with square brackets ' [ '

It will look like this: thread from BABB (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=20399&)

Do you mean THE Extra 300? (THE aerobatic plane till the Sukhoi 31 appeared?) I was/is Walter Extra a member of your faculty?

I had a teacher once who told us of having been at a function for NASA personel, and he asked various people what they did at NASA, and most (if not all) said that they trained the astronauts--including the custodian who cleaned up after the astronauts had been through the centerfuge.

As Nicolas said, "a little pride isn't bad."

I can personally claim to contribute to the astronaut training program--by telling the public about what the astronauts do. Yes it is a streaching of the truth (a big streach) but not a 100% lie.
