Read here (http://www.prh.noaa.gov/ptwc/wmsg) for more info. It's an 8.5 quake. Hopefully, people will learn about this quickly and take shelter.

It's not in the Pacific; it seems to be near the same place as the one that caused the big tsunami. You might want to change the title of the thread.

Actually, it says that the US Geological Survey measured it as 8.2, and that the Japan Meteorological Agency measured it as 8.5.

Hopefully warnings are being heeded and there will be no human tragedy after this event.

I can't help noticing: this is the day following Easter and the last one was the day following Christmas. Pure coincidence I know but the woos will have a field day with that.

Yeah, I've heard the press pointing out this coincidence as well. Still no tsunamis reported...keeping fingers crossed.

The first one was at full moon. This one is 3 days after full moon.

Yep, all major earthquakes occur within about 14 days of a full moon.

USGS changed it from an 8.2 to an 8.7.
