CONGRATULATIONS! :D

[EDITED FOR TRIANGLEMAN!] I am so so sorry.

I would like to thank the academy...

And I need to confess something:

The first days (2 or so now) when I reached Kilopi, nobody noticed indeed (or said something about it). I did some searching and found the following:

Dgruss23 reached Kilopi some time ago, and announced this himself.
Triangleman reached Kilopi, and as far as I found, nobody noticed.

That's why I started with a "subtle" sig (just as ajoke, it ain't really important to me).
Later this evening I bolded the word Kilopi.
As there still was no reaction, I just PM'ed triangleman 5 minutes ago to ask him if he would make a "subtle" sig himself.
If we still didn't get a reaction, I suggested we would start a thread in a few days in which we asked for a more allert communtiy, one which respects board traditions and BABB members etcetc :D :D

But as it seems, Candy noticed just in time.

Hint: Do celebrate Triangleman as well!

And thanks for the wings Candy. I have read the sun proximity warning, don't worry :).

Wow over 3000 posts in less than a year. I hope I contributed something.

Candy: "traingleman" Are you getting obsessed with your work-outs?
You know the saying: it's better to get obsessed than obesed when it comes to work-outs!

the link between the person and the emoticon is a typo 8) :).

About the flying, in a few weeks (when I have the results of my finals) I will ask if I have a chance of taking some flying lessons. My eyes have worsened however :( . And the finals are really difficult :( .

I can't find any cute little emoticons for TriangleMan. Could it just be this simple? http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-057.gif

If you wanted us to stop at Kilopi, you should have warned us. You're too late now :).

Beat Toseek? I'm not even at Candy's posting rate...
(though the first months have lowered that average of mine a bit)

ToSeek has been very calm the last days, so maybe somebody will ever beat him.

It won't be me howevver. I'm going 100% for quality as always. (at least that's my intention :) )

I've already had 2 of my 5 finals. I think I did both of them well. I didn't understand a thing of one exam, bbut still I think I passed it :).

I fear 2 of the 3 coming exams. We have little time for both of them, and they are difficult (aerodynamics D, and Finite Element Method). As my head ain't that orderly, studying is hard.

We have a very strange university which assumes you're giving up anyway: they assume you're not doing your exams. If you are going to do them, you must register. This is just a standard full year curriculum, not an open university or things like that. Somehow I forgot to do this this time #-o, so in theory all my final grades don't count, whether I pass them or not. I've already sent a demand of recognition for my results, and normally things will turn out fine as it's the first time in 3 years I forgot to do it. I've got aerodynamics D on monday morning. Think of me :).

About forgetting to register: I really thought I had done so. There might have been a computer error: you could start subscribing for your exams february 7th. The last time I logged on to the subscription site was (according to the logbook of the site) february 6th...23h55. According to the log, I didn't log on again until 4th of april. Before february 6th, I logged on every 5 days or less. 8-[ I just don't get it. :(

It would be a pity, as I was doing this year cum laude (on average that is in the Netherlands) upto now. My second year was somewhat less (about 75% on average IIRC), but I finished my first year cum laude as well, and I'm still on nominal study progress. I hope sooo hard that these results will count! :-?

Thanks for the congrats, everybody!!

Thank heavens someone besides me asked first! I frequently play the obtuse dope as part of my "Three Stooges" sense of humor. But I'm not following this conversation AT ALL!

There's a bit of a tradition around here. When you hit 3142 posts, you've reached the kilopi (kilo = 1000, pi = 3.14159) limit. Some people retire their posting name at that point, and start anew. More recently, the popular thing to do is just to have Candy congratulate you.

And on that note, congrats to both of the lucky winners! You can pick up your *wink*wink* at the *nudge*nudge*.

hang on, shouldn't the kilopi limit be 3142, since a kilopi to 6 significant figures would be 3141.59, so shouldn't the fourth significant figure be rounded up?

CONGRATULATIONS! :D

[EDITED FOR TRIANGLEMAN!] I am so so sorry.
The reason no one acknowledged these events was that Candy has become the official ceremonial Kilopi award presenter. Others may offer congratulations, etc., but until Candy posts her official announcement, then it's just not "official"!

It's kind of like congratulating actors on their Oscars the day before the Awards. Nope, got to wait until after the show.

In the initial post on this thread the emoticon is waving a couple leaves. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but the five-bladed numbers being waved look a lot like a certain prohibited herb.

Nicolas

It are fig leaves. Not prohibited, and nicely large, so I can fly with them. But you won't get really high.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess that I am such a conservative poster that it will take another four years for me to achieve such status. I've been a regular on this board since 96'. I lurked for about six months before jumping in the fray.

Where do you guys find the time to do all of this posting?? Usually I can only get in a couple of zippo raids a day and they are usually at odd hours. :o :o

Nicolas
2005-Apr-10, 08:17 PM
that's mainly because I was in a situation where I needed to work on my home computer about 24/7.

I wasn't posting just to reach kilopi (what's the point). But as I mainly posted to break work for a second, and because I like that thread, there are quite some WA posts.
I know that I had days with more than 130 posts.

For those who haven't noticed, I post ouside of BABBling as well :).

2005-Apr-10, 11:58 PM
*somebody* would have to check it (there is no easy way to do it, or is there?) but I might have broken that 130 record. You're definately younger though, and you'll sure have wider threads than me :D

What I don't get btw is that some people had problems with the width of my left<---->other left sig, while they don't seem to have problems with 10110101 (or what's it)'s "101101011001101001..." thread which doesn't use spaces. I can't see whether it is too wide as my screen is more than wide enough in the current settings; I was just wondering.

My secret was my laptop. I used to take it to work, so I could play on the BABB during down time. I got busted, though. :o

During breaks at school, I jump on the BABB. Our classroom's have computers built into the desktops. 8)

Plus, I have no social life, so posting from home can be a continuous 12-24 hours sometimes on my days off. I do take the occasional break to do some tidying up around the house. :D

At univ. I only log on during the midday break, and sometimes during 15 minutes breaks in the lectures. (and during PC work of course, I'll have to limit myself the coming weeks; we've got peer reviews :D )

By the way I think I passed Aerodynamics. Now if my results don't count I think there will be a nice article in the University Weekly  :D
