Hey there,

a friend of mine said he heard that the remains of a deceased astronaut were scattered in space. He wondered if it was true, and if so, whose ashes were they? I know there are companies out there who claim to send people's ashes into orbit for a large fee, but I've never heard of this being done to a NASA astronaut.

Don't know about any astronaut, but Gene Roddenberry's ashes were scattered in space.

Some of Gene Shoemaker's ashes are actually on the moon. Very fitting indeed. 8)

IIRC, Al Bean brought Charlie Basset's wings with him on Apollo 12, and left them at the landing site.

My guess is that this is probably the source of the story, though sadly he never made it to the Moon during life.
