Eddie Albert, the actor best known as the constantly befuddled city slicker-turned-farmer in television's "Green Acres," has died. He was 99.

Eddy did a good job of playing a Colonol in the movie "The Longest Day". IMHO.

I'm sure some of that is due to his combat experience during WWII. See below.

He was an active participant in the battle of Tarawa (Nov. 1943), one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, and U.S. Marines Corps history. Is credited with braving enemy fire during 26 rescue missions saving wounded Marines. he was awarded the Bronze Star with a combat 'V' for rescuing 70 Marines during the battle of Tarawa in 1943

I also found this interesting about his life,

Because of his his early work with environmental causes and groups, when International Earth Day was created, it was decided it must be held on April 22 because that is his birthday.

According to this site, (http://news.yahoo.com/s/eo/20050528/en_celeb_eo/16652;_ylt=AkxAQMcaB7SGx6NZHxhgJ0Ks0NUE;_ylu=X3oDM TA2OXY1b2VrBHNlYwNlbg--) as of yesterday, he is still dead. I don't know where you are getting your info but please post a source? ;) I'd prefer he was still alive.

I think she meant, did anyone realize he was still alive up 'til yesterday? Odd thing, I didn't realize he was 99. :o

thank you, Candy. that is, in fact, exactly what I meant. I didn't realize he was still alive to have died so recently. this keeps happening to me, as evidenced by the fact that I just found out a few days ago that Harper Lee is still alive.

Ah, shoot! Ali Hakim has finally journeyed to that great harem in the sky?

Lurker should enjoy this bit of movie script:

Ado Annie Carnes: He called me his Persian kitten!
Carnes: What'd you call her that for?
Ali Hakim: Ohh - I don't remember...
Ado Annie Carnes: I do! He said I's like a Persian kitten cause they is the cats with the soft round tails!
Carnes: [cocking his gun] That's enough. In this country that better be a proposal of marriage.
Hope that tractor's behaving better now, Eddie! Say "Howdy!" to Arnold and his father for me, if you would. =D>
