Two climate change sceptics, who believe the dangers of global warming are overstated, have put their money where their mouth is and bet $10,000 that the planet will cool over the next decade.

The Russian solar physicists Galina Mashnich and Vladimir Bashkirtsev have agreed the wager with a British climate expert, James Annan.

They say that global temperatures are linked more to the sun's cycle [i.e. number and size of sunspots] and as the sun is expected to enter a less active cycle soon, they're laying bets the earth will likewise cool.

it is well known that the average energy received by the earth from the sun varies a percent or two... i can't understand why this is never considered to be significant.

if the russians are right, michael mann and company will blame it on global warming.
