View Full Version : Saturn's Clouds with Shadows

Here's a link to the Cassini Image of the day showing some of Saturn's clouds near the terminator, where the relief is very exagerated, giving the viewer a good sense of which clouds are higher than the others.

That is really cool--I think that kind of picture is a first for Jupiter or Saturn (though not for Neptune). Thanks!

It seems to indicate that the contrast of the clouds really is low, though, rather than the popular explanation that they're obscured by a haze. Then again, the picture is probably too small to give a good indication of meso- or macroscale features of the atmosphere.
