SUMMARY: The world's space and ground-based observatories are getting set to watch Deep Impact smash into Comet Tempel 1 on July 4, 2005 - it should be a great show. Since the spacecraft's impactor will smash into the comet at such a high velocity, telescopes will need to be calibrated very carefully to be able to properly capture the event. Between now and July 4, telescopes, such as Hubble and Spitzer will help pin down the exact size and shape of Tempel 1, to give observers the best scientific data.
