2005-Jul-26, 04:34 PM
SUMMARY: Don't forget to mark your calendars for one of the best sky events of the year, the Perseid meteor shower. This year the shower peaks before dawn on August 12. Viewers in both hemispheres will be able to see meteors; however, it's folks in the north who'll get to see more. And as a special bonus, Mars will be visible in the eastern sky, near where the Perseid meteors seem to originate.

I thought this shower peaked at 18UT, which makes the *evening* of the 12th a better time to observe. Yes Perseus won't be as high but meteors can be seen anywhere in the sky, they just appear to emanate from Perseus. Also there is a possibilty of a burst of extra activity around 3UT on the 13th. All of this is according to the international Meteor Organization.
