View Full Version : How Deforestation in Brazil is Affecting Local Climate

SUMMARY: Satellites are giving scientists a bird's eye view of deforestation in the Brazilian rainforest, and the impact this is happening on the local environment. The researchers studied many years of data gathered by NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), and found that the land heated up more quickly in the deforested areas. The increased temperatures let to more evaporation and greater rainfall during normally drier seasons. This challenges previous theories that said deforestation would lead to more arid conditions.
