What's wrong with this sentence:

from the AP...
NEW YORK - Authorities stepped up security Thursday after receiving what city officials called a credible threat that the New York subway could be the target of a terrorist attack in coming days. But Homeland Security officials in Washington downplayed the threat, saying it was of "doubtful credibility."

ok...ok..I mean what's wrong with this country? It's not bad enough that there have been so many of these "alerts" as to render them almost useless, but did we need yet another example of how the head and hands of the giant are completely incapable of working in tandem.

but wait, it get's better....
Despite the differing takes on the seriousness of the threat, New York officials mobilized police officers to begin looking through commuters' bags, briefcases, baby strollers and luggage.

Gauleiter Bloomberg claims it's the most specific terrorist threat officials had received to date.

I can just see it now...
"Your paperz pleez..."
"Your paperz...zey are not in orter, Herr Green?"
"Pleez come vis us!"

Add to that the devilishly ingenious National Terror Threat Advisory System which, logically speaking, can never actually be lowered. It's insidious brilliance that puts the Ernst Blofelds of the world to shame.

Ben Franklin tried to warn us 200 years ago of allowing this kind of baloney.

I'm sure all the latest constitutional infringements won't bother too many...as long as they don't pre-empt this weeks DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

Er... perhaps this isn't the best board to discuss this.

Definitely not.

Sorry, soylentgreen -- this falls outside the scope of BAUT. As noted in the FAQ (http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?p=564845#post564845):

12. Politics & Religion

Due to the contentious nature of these subjects, forum participants are strongly advised to avoid discussing religious and political issues. Please don't begin or contribute to a topic that's merely going to incite or fuel a flame war.

However, the following exceptions apply:

A) Political impact upon space programs, exploration, and science.

B) Focused, polite discussion of concepts such as creationism and "intelligent design" which bear direct relevance to astronomy and science, for the purposes of conversing about and addressing misconceptions.

C) Focused, polite discussion of the difference between astronomy (including cosmology) and religion

Partisan political debate is unwelcome and should be undertaken elsewhere. The same applies to debates purely religious in nature. Likewise, proselytizing will not be allowed. In short, you are allowed to discuss politics and religion within a very limited scope where they affect space and space exploration, astronomy, and science. Nothing more. If you really really need to talk about these topics with someone, take it to email or to another bulletin board.

Locked.
