Your avatar looks like my cat, Cujo.

The second link wasn't THAT funny. It was kinda "meh". I mean, a guy gets shocked. Woo. :P

(BTW: It's only vaguely funny to me; but others might be more amused)

The guy in the picture looks like he is planning on banging the poor cat on the floor.

Floor? He is outside:razz:

I am sure that the cat is a stand in because the cat is in a awkward position. I am sure the guy was chopping fire wood with a Axe or something like that...

Titana........

I think the cat is a photoshop combination of a jumping cat (turned picture) and a wood chopping man.

If it's real and not cruel, he just pulled the cat off the roof by its behind legs because the cat wouldn't come of.

If it's real and cruel, he's trying to slam it into the ground. But it's more fun to imagine the man making a "windmill" movement and that he will throw the cat as far away as he can :naughty: :D .

BU I think it's possibility 1; the photoshop combination.

Dragon Star
2005-Nov-25, 01:45 AM
Yea, this pic was changed. If you look, he was holding something in his other hand, which is covered by the OWN3D tag. He is also staring at the same point as his hand, suggesting he is trying for accuracy.

If it really bothers people, I will take it off, just post or give me a PM and I will fix it.

Own3d means "Owned", as in, "I beat you". It means that the kid about to be run over was "owned".. or killed, in this case. Also, I might add, that same kid was pictured in a picture that said, "Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics: Even if you win, you're still an idiot", or something similar.

I would have a hard time reporting stuff like that too. I don't like to see anyone injured, but sometimes the circumstances are just too much for me...

... that's a great candidate for the Darwin award

Y'know, I used to find the Darwin Awards funny and amusing until I read this:

http://www.darwinawards.com/stupid/stupid1998-14.html

It basically celebrated a father potentially killing his 14 year old child. It expressed dismay when the two survived. Now, I'm not sure about all of you, but celebrating killing kids is not something I like nor is it something I like to see; unless it's done in jest. However, the Darwin Awards are not done in jest. They really do mean it when they celebrate the death of the "stupid".

So the "Darwin Awards" grew less amusing and more cruel in my eyes. Not to mention I disagree with the basis that stupidity is necessarily bred into us; while natural factors are a source, it seems to me that the majority of "stupidity" into this world comes about from environment, lack of critical thinking, and sometimes how one is socialized (conformity can bring about stupidity; and so, too, can total lack of socialization, potentially).

Anyways, yeah. That's my personal feelings on the DA.

I wonder how well researched that is... not at all like the documentary I saw on him a few weeks ago. I just can't see anybody who's been subjected to an Irukanji sting being willign to subject anybody else to the same pain.

Back to the Darwin awards themselves. They aren't really glorifying stupidity, per se. After all, some of these situations require a great deal of thought and effort.

The way I read it, they're actually expressing astonishment and dismay at these people. "here's somebody who's obviously bright, yet he did this incredibly stupid thing. What the heck is wrong here?" Granted, it's frequently at the humerous expense of the victim, but I think that's secondary.

The Darwin Awards' stated goal is to celebrate the deaths of "stupid people" that "remove themselves from the gene pool".

Quoted from the Darwin Awards' website:

"Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it."

When the 14-year-old was mentioned in the Honorable Mention, that made me think: They mean ALL of the genes, including family. So mother, father, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, anyone related. So, potentially, if a man did something stupid and also ended up killing his six year old child, it would be hypocritical of the DA to *NOT* celebrate that murder.

I understand that - but celebrate doesn't always mean 'we think this is great'

but, no, they only mean the genes of the individual in question, so for certain the wife is exempt, as are non-direct descendant relatives (cousins etc)

I think one of the criteria is to remove all your genes, and usually that means the individual in question is childless. What made this story DA material was that it did include the son. But yes, if his actions did result in the removal of his offspring, it certainly would, and should qualify him

on a slightly different note, I think the use of the word 'murder' is incorrect here. Murder explicitly implies intent to kill, and the DA is given to those who simply don't think their actions through and end up being erased accidentally.

...and what would hide my ladybug underwear from passersby???

Besides, I only have one pair (of jeans).

Yeah, I know what you meant - couldn't resist the lead-in, however.

My wife calls me evil, but I can't help but laugh when someone trips/falls for no apparent reason (or a "self imposed" reason), then gets up, dusts off their pants and carries on.Some people are like Slinkies - pretty much useless, but you can't help but smile when they tumble down a flight of stairs.

We have a running line in our household. Whenever I'm tucking the girls in (age 5 and 8) and we happen to see the cat with it's nose up against the mouse house (4 pet mice), I tell them "I think Elsa would like to invite the mice over for dinner." They think it is hilarious.

Might have to be there.

Yep, Flemish (i.e. Belgian Dutch). No idea which program or channel though, I have never seen this show or host (well, I don't think we will see this host again soon either).

Very funny Dragon Star. Especially the first one.....

That one reminded me of something that happened to me and my sister once when I was visiting her down in Los Angeles. We were coming from a store (walking) that was about 6 blocks from where she lived. When we were about four blocks from home, we saw this one guy coming around the corner walking really fast with a strange look on his face. He stayed behind us for about another block and sense he was walking kind of fast we started walking faster too. we would constantly keep looking back to make sure the man did not catch up to us. well, it got to a point where the faster we would walk the faster the guy would walk, so we started to run and looking back we saw the guy started to run too. We really thought maybe the guy was after us. When we finally got to the house we felt safe, so we waited for the man to pass by and see what he was up to. The man still running, turned and looked at us and asked us what the heck we were running from and we told him, well, from you, because you were scaring us. The man just shook his head and said ,well you girls are the ones who scared the heck out of me, sense you were looking back all the time and just suddenly started running I did not know what you two girls were running from, and I did not even want to look back, I just ran too...

Jokes.....:p

Little Tim was in the garden filling in a hole when his neighbor peered over the fence. Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked, "What are you up to there, Tim?"

"My goldfish died," replied Tim tearfully, without looking up, "and I've just buried him."

The neighbor was concerned, "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"

Tim patted down the last heap of earth then replied, "That's because he's inside your stupid cat."

One day a guy walked into a pet store to buy a parrot. He found one that he liked and went up to the counter to buy it. The store clerk saw which parrot he had picked out and said, ''That parrot repeats everything he hears.''

''That's alright,'' the man replied. So the man bought the parrot and left the store. As he was walking down the street, he saw a cop chasing a robber.

The cop hollered to his partner, ''Shoot him down, shoot him down!''
Then the parrot said, ''Shoot him down, shoot him down!''

They kept walking and found a man who was trying to pry his car off the ground with a crowbar because his wheels had been stolen.

The man said, ''Pop it up, pop it up!''
The parrot said, ''Pop it up, pop it up!''

They kept on walking to a carnival. A guy at a gamestand yelled, ''Hit a big one, win a prize!''
The parrot said, ''Hit a big one, win a prize!''

Then they walked into a church and sat down. The minister was in the middle of the sermon.

He said, ''The Lord is above us.''
The parrot said, ''Shoot him down, shoot him down!''

The minister said, ''The devil is below us.''
The parrot said, ''Pop it up, pop it up.''

Then the minister got angry and threw a bible at the parrot. The parrot ducked and the bible hit a fat lady behind him.
The parrot said,'' Hit a big one, win a prize!''
