A Perth astronomer says a spectacular light show in the sky last night was a meteor.
Sightings were made as far south as Albany and inland through the Wheat Belt.

On your third link there's one :)

Amazing how such a "small" meteor can give such an effect.

I can't vouch for the authenticity of this, but here is a link to a short file that shows a meteor impact as captured by an amateur video photographer. It might be a hoax, but it is sure impressive!

Anyway, saw this video. (http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=44264) Pretty impressive that someone got such a clear shot of one.
And it shows the Ausie point of view... "as small as a half a case of beer"

You got the right media player?

Watched it again... it's a full case of beer and a half a VW.
And according to one astronomer... the sonic boom occurs when the meteor BEGINS moving faster than the speed of sound. :eh:

that's a common misconception: people think it's the sound of "breaking" the sound barrier.

However, he might have known that the meteor moves somewhat faster than sound already from the start of the atmosphere :).

That's my point... he's an astronomer for gosh sakes, he should know better. I'm sure it's the reporters interpretation of what he said, although it could be the case of beer.

Pretty amazing stuff. I'd love to see a fireball some day.
