A comment from Publiusr here (http://www.bautforum.com/showthread.php?p=626081#post626081) got me thinking of a world without space tech. In other words what would happen if we turned off all the satellites?

Well, that would be (to use a technical term) bad.

GPS would no longer exist.
Meteorologists would no longer be able to track hurricanes or other dangerous weather as accurately, which would endanger many lives.
There would be no satellite TV (that one would be no great loss compared to the other things listed here).
Any kind of live, overseas reporting would have to be done over land lines; in many cases, this wouldn't be possible.
It would be more difficult for government intelligence agencies to monitor what other nations are doing with their militaries.

That's just a few things off the top of my head. I'm sure others can think of many more.

all manner of experiments and observations would come to an end. I do NOT want to turn off the HST!
