I just want to congratulate the BAUT board on today notching up its 7000th Poster!

That is an extraordinary achievement for a Forum and a great testament to the hugely informative contributions that are continually made here, and also the very friendly and welcoming community feel here that pervades all the discussions. To that much congratulations must go to all involved but especially to Fraser, the BA and also to all the Mods who do such a great job at keeping the peace whenever potential spot-fires threaten to break out.

Well done everyone, let's power on towards 8000!

:) :) :)

`The Zillion Puppets of Wayne Smith' you mean?

You could be onto something there, maybe you could get in contact with Wayne to pass on this advice so he has something new to do, rather than actually spawning these zillions of little wannabees.

At current count, I get 7892 posters of 13855 BAUT members, 56.96%, wonder how that conversion rate compares?

As for counting sock-puppets, I think the member list is devoid of any banned posters, so I don't think that's a problem - although there are a number of other sock-puppets there, Grapes of Wrath, kilopi etc. - but I have no idea how many of these there are.

I think he may have just went through the list on members until he got to the ones with no post count and then producted the pages before with the number lister per page, plus the ones that didn't fully make a page...

Well, that's what I would've done if there wasn't a number already listed...

Yep, mickal is right - just ordered the posters highest to lowest and went to the last page with posters.

Lots of 1 post efforts, and from memory its about page 275 or so that we start hitting the zeroes. :):D:)

Ok, well, in the past 6 months - there have been 1000 new members to post - as I've just checked the posting numbers and its up 8131 BAUT members to post.

At this rate by about June 2007 we'll surpass the 10,000 Posting Member Mark.

Yep, still on the hobby horse with the poster numbers.

Hadn't checked on it for a while, but it definitely looks like things are on track to break 10,000 posters by June - as earlier predicted, the rate of about 1000 new members making their first post over about a 6 month period does seems to have picked up just a touch over the last 6 months - which is a good sign.

Looking at the numbers just now, there are 9287 BAUTers that have made at least 1 post (and haven't been chucked off the system for one reason or another).

713 new posters required to break the 10,000 poster mark.

9287/17737 = 52.36% of those who join make at least 1 post to the site.

(If a mod cruises through here and wants to change the title to 9000th poster - it wouldn't be a bad idea to reflect changing circumstances)

Well pretty soon, when the rest of my family joins, we will have enough members to ...

TAKE OVER THE BOARD! BWA HA HA HA HA!!!

(Oops did I say that out loud?)

Toseek, is there anything in the rules that says pets can't join? I have some really intelligent fish that are interested in signing up. One of them even has advanced pectorals and a vascularized, bifurcated swimbladder that allows him to breath air for about 4 to 8 hours, depending on humidity. He can do his own typing, I just have to put one of those membrane thingies over the keyboard 'cause he has that mucus thing going on. The others I will have to do the typing for.

What!? What's everybody looking at me like that for?

Well, just checked in again and as well as going through 1 Million posts here recently, we are now nigh on approaching the 10,000th BAUT Poster I predicted by June, but it looks like it could occur in perhaps the last week of May.

As of today, there are 9887 BAUTers that have contributed at least 1 post to the board, out of 19774 BAUT members which, remarkably, is exactly, exactly 50% of the total community members that have contributed a post.

9887/19774 = 50% of those who join make at least 1 post to the site.

Have to say I am a little amazed by the roundness of that figure, but there you go.

Given the previous ratio, it would appear that there are an accelerating number of members who join to browse through the forum without actually contributing. I have to admit I'd be interested to know similar statistics from other forums, but it looks likely to continue trending downwards, I guess - until there is some big event, something to really cause many of these so-called lurkers out of the woodwork in some capacity.

So, within weeks we're likely to pass 2 more milestones on the board, possibly on the same day

20,000 BAUT Members
10,000 BAUT Posters

I'll be sure to mark the day this actually happens in some capacity.

Well, there we go - checked back in here today and we here at BAUT have breached 20,000 BAUT Forum Members.

Well done everyone! As for those that have actually posted, that currently sits at 9954 - only 46 newbies to go!

As to something else I just thought of, ever wondered what the Crossover Position is? Nah, didn't think so.

Well its the point at which your ranking in terms of how many posts you've made intersects with the number of posts you've actually made.

As of right now, this sits at 429/430.

As in the 429th most prolific poster Ripper (http://bautforum.com/member.php?u=2400)

whilst the equal 430th most prolific posters
nutant gene 71 (http://bautforum.com/member.php?u=5565) & Laminal Cockroach (http://bautforum.com/member.php?u=10796)have posted 429 posts.

I only mention this because I reckon a good new milestone after 10,000 BAUT Posters are clocked up is to push this Crossover Point out past 500 - which would be a great achievement.

Anyway - I have no idea what led me to work this out. LOL.

I look back to this post, in August last year and as a prediction it is remarkably accurate when predicting when the 10,000th member to join BAUT who posted would occur.

It tends to suggest that this board has an incredibly stable rate of penetration growth, or at least it has over the last 12-18 months or so.

I think May 30th qualifies quite well as about June 2007. :)

13855 BAUT members

That's quite the growth rate.

12146 new members. 410 days. Almost 30 new members/day.

And, I see 10480 posters, members with at least one post.

Edit: puzzle. Advanced member search shows 8415 new members joined since 2006 July 6. I wonder whether the database is wrong - probably not - or jkmccrann recorded the member count wrong, or I'm reading todays' member count wrong. Must investigate.

Advanced search says, for members joined before 2006 July 6: 13805. Close enough to jkmccrann's 13855.

Current: 26001.
Joined before 2006-07-06: 13805.

What am I doing wrong? Have that many new members disappeared?

jkmccrann

Quite a puzzle there - but taking what Tinaa says, that is quite possibly the reason. As a site becomes more popular, and attracts a larger audience, it attracts an increasing number of spammers.

20 bannings in a day by one moderator would add up to a lot in a 12-13 month period.

Oh, I forgot to follow up. Yeah, the member list, and the count that goes with it (today around 22300) doesn't include banned members. The number on the front page (today around 26100) probably does include all.

The number jkmccrann used for 2006 July 6, 13855 must have come from the members list and not the front page, so I shouldn't have compared a front page number with it.

More betterer would be: (2007 August 20) 22220 members (from members list). 8365 new members since 2006 July 6. 410 days. About 20 new members/day -- not counting the banned.

The new BA book-give-away scam seem to be working.
Total number of registered posters according to the front page is now 29,000+.

However, according to the membership list there are 23,974 posters.
That is a lot of banned spammers/trolls/socks.

12,690 members, ca 53%, have never posted.
3,850 members, ca 16%, have posted only once.

64 posters have passed KiloPi.

The last year saw the addition of:
12,943 Threads
249,047 Posts
13,310 Members

These numbers come from the front page Forum Statistics only, this time, and not the members list. The members list has been massively pruned during the period and now only shows members with 10 or more posts, so it is useless for comparison with last year (but shows 3536 of them, just in case the rules are the same next year). The Forum Statistics include banned members, so many of them may have participated only briefly.
