SKAMP - S'kampas

One of the best Lithuanian bands ever.Whoa, Lithuanian band? Gotta be good!

Meanwhile, why the continual presumption that all anyone listens to is songs? There are many other forms of music out there.

Right now I'm listening to the III - In ruhig fließender Bewegung from Berio's Sinfonia, one of the first examples of musical deconstruction in the repertoire. Although the Mahler piece that serves as the germ and puzzle is fantastic, it's a wonderful piece of music in its own, plus the second section is what got me going on it yesterday, since it's called II - O King.

I really don't mind it. I mean, I listen to music in other languages (Latin, Gaelic, German, etc.) all the time. The voices just kind of become another instrument.

I am listening to:

Mozart - Rondo alla Turca
In an arrangement for cello, strings, harpsichord group and piano.

All played by myself live :D. I use my organ and my keyboard.

Right hand: piano solo (this is the only keyboard part). Left hand: a sound texture of the harpsichord with the strings (and in fact some other sounds underneath that, but that doesn't matter, it's just to colour the harpsichord). My foots play a cello sound to sustain the left hand's chords. Nothing goes automatically: no sequencers, arpeggiators or other things. If I press something a note is heard and otherwise nothing :).

Too bad I can only play the "chorus" and finale. I can't read notes and don't find how to play the in between parts. Still, when playing a whole orchestra yourself, you get some nice amusement :). I'm not really good at this split brain things, that's a pity. And I'm left handed, which isn't too handy for the solo hand :).

This is where the magic happens:
http://upload.talk2.nl/files/827867studio%20(640%20x%20480).jpg
Obviously, having only 2 hands one of the 3 hand keyboards is unused as in this piece I don't switch instruments (in that case all keyboards would be used). Also I'm not using the knee lever in this piece. INdeed, in a full blown piece you even use your knee. In fact that could make my rendition a bit better: adding an extra sound for the finale :). I should try that once. A bit of oboe and violin, though it does not sound like that but it adds a bit of breath to the chords. A sublte difference and just a good excuse to use the knee lever :). I could try to get "realistic" and fast fading horns out of it, but even this organ has its limitations :)

I was listening to AC/DC Live at a very high volume...

I listen to whatever songs put me in the mood I want to be in. I currently am wishing it would rain, wishing to feel the pitter-patter of water massaging my back while I endure the weird side effects of meds that should be relieving backpain while I wait to hear what are the results of the x-rays taken a couple days ago.

So, I'm listening to Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFbjE7NFmUI) by Patty Griffin.

A bit of a bump here...

A while ago, on another thread, I was reminded of the "hooked on classics" album. Since I lost my original vinyl (which probably wouldn't be good enough anyway), I bought the CD-Set.

Now, every time I listen to the "Scotland the brave" track, I can't help but picture Ohura singing "Charlie's our new darling..." http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/musik/c075.gif (http://www.cosgan.de/smilie.php)
