View Full Version : London gets a Tour stage!

I don't often find any reasons to wish I still lived in London, but this (http://sport.guardian.co.uk/cycling/story/0,,1693773,00.html) did it this morning. My holiday plans for 2007 are beginning to take shape...

See you there John W! It looks like the Prologue will be in central London, possibly in the evening, with a stage to Kent (Ashford?) to catch the Eurostar back to the mainland.

All the news reports seem to have missed the fact that the last time the Tour was in England Sean Yates was in a break on the first day and lead GC so he wore yellow on the second day. I'm sure that was the same year Armstrong was in the World Champions jersey, back when he was a Classics rider. Youngsters nowadays don't believe me when I tell them that, but back then we wore an onion in our belts . . .

Here we go, scroll down for the photo (http://www.dailypeloton.com/displayarticle.asp?pk=8396)

Yeah, well, enjoy, guys. OLN has cut coverage of cycling yet again (http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-87579.html) now that St. Lance has retired. I'm thinking of taking up bull-riding so that at least a sport I enjoy will get some decent coverage.

OLN may try what they considered for La Vuelta (http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/?id=2005/nelson_vuelta) :)

They have the problem that they have concentrated so much on Armstrong and are now stuck with Discovery who have virtually no US riders (3 of 28) and US riders on other teams that they have ignored for years.

I can't do anything for your tv coverage but you should try and see Hoellentour (http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0006TROAY/qid%3D1138192257/028-4768509-1384502), it is in German but the commentary is largely unnecessary. It follows Zabel and Aldag through the 2003 Tour and is the antidote to anyone who thinks cycling through France in the summer must be quite pleasant.
