I was reading this thread (http://64.207.216.12/showthread.php?t=37429), and clicked on the link here (http://64.207.216.12/showpost.php?p=664280&postcount=4). Suddenly, I got logged out. O.K., so I logged in, but now I've noticed that the forum address in my browser is http://64.207.216.12/index.php, which seems odd. Does anyone have any idea why this happens?

Unless they opted for a dedicated IP address, the host probably did something like switching the forum to a different server due to maintenance on the original one or some such issue.

My host will occasionally shift people around if a nasty DDOS is tageting a specific server, a site starts using too many resources if it's on a shared server, or the user needs something that the current server doesn't have (like PHP 5, my current host only has a handful of servers with PHP 5 installed currently with the rest running 4).

You don't. You can select the option of being automatically logged in... errm... somewhere in your user options. :o
BTW, welcome to the forum. :)

My company uses a filtering system that tries to keep employees from accessing inappropriate websites. It does not seem to work very consistently as sometimes I can access just about anywhere and sometimes I can't even access articles on Washington Post Online. This forum is somewhere in the middle. However, if I use the raw IP address, then I never have any problems. So a lot of times when I put in a link you'll see that it uses the raw IP address.

ah, I noticed that was happening with toseek's links...

It was funny cause he made a post saying someone else was toseeked...

It makes you log in again if you use the IP adress....

As soon as I start using the proper URL, they'll cut me off again.
