Could you give us the article that this was a part of? I think it looks like someone played around in Photoshop, but with out the story it is impossible to say why any one, even the strongest believers, would believe that this is an alien craft.

Although, I'm reminded of this quote:

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Too bad I do not know who said it, so that I can give them proper credit.

I think if you go here:
http://www.cnn.com/TECH/space/
and click on the Space Chronicles link halfway down you will see it.

At least they link you to the SOHO site so that you get the full story on how these images are made.

Laser Jock is right. This is actually a good CNN move. Next to the picture it says:

UFO FRENZY
Many unidentified flying objects have been "discovered" in Internet images from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory. After one such find made headlines this year, SOHO scientists explained that any armchair astronomer can do the same, provided they enhance common pixel glitches in pictures from the deep space satellite. Want to spot one yourself? Check out: http://soho.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/pastshots

I was taking mostly about the link

"Armchair astronomers catch UFOs with help of deep space satellite"

It doesn't really clarify that the image is not real.

Most people associate UFO's with Alienís
why use UFO? why not strange SOHO image
