The joy over the WMAP data brings back a
query. The COBE map published 15 or so years
ago was described as mainly noise! So why
put it out unless some striking graphic is
needed for every space story. So is that map
meaningless or do features stay in the latest
data?

Are you confusing the COBE map with the WMAP map? The latter is much more detailed:

Wow. The Universe is expanding. The second WMAP is 12 pixels wider.

those images answers my question, thanks!
COBE was pink originally:)
