As heard at around 1:10 into the flight, the pilot says something about UHF, and then houston says, "that's expected to clear up"

Does anybody know what are they talking about?

One of the channels used for shuttle communications is in the UHF band. Most of the time they use the S-band, though.

Sounds like the S-band comm link went down momentarily, leaving them with the UHF comm link. The commander replied, "Roger, go at throttle up. UHF only." The reply stated that the problem was expected to clear up.

Thanks for the info. It just seems a little odd to me to tell the shuttle commander "oh yeah, that's expected to clear up." rather than just acknowledge that they were on UHF.
