Following in their "The shuttle travels 18 times the speed of light," CNN now tells us that the space station has been occupied for 22 years.

Seventh crew in 22 years.

So, they spend and average of three years and some months up there?

(Closer to 4-1/2 years in orbit, 2-1/2 years manned, with crews averaging five months each. http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/ )

This NASA webpage (http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/) has cumulative Station time in orbit and cumulative crew time in orbit counters. It links to a page (http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/crew/year2/index.html) that celebrates two years of continuous residency, on Nov. 2, 2002. They got the number of crews right, must have dropped a decimal point. :)

Maybe CNN got the International Space Station confused with MIR. What with the Russians being involved, and all.

'Course, MIR isn't occupied any more, but what was it's record?

15 years, 62 people, 24 crews (http://www.cosmicimages.com/Mir/mirhistory1.html)

Wasn't the first Salyut launched 22 years ago? Maybe they meant space stations in general. 8)

Did one of you guys send them an email? I don't see the 22 year figure up there anymore!

Or maybe somebody from CNN is a registered member of the BABB.
