View Full Version : Radiation Budget of Jovian Planet's Moons

After reading various popular articles on life possibility on moons of extrasolar jovian planets I'm wondering to what extent could be significant radiation reflected by the planet onto its moon. This could be of particular interest in case of an Earth-like moon orbiting jovian planet with high albedo on a joint orbit which is outside of the conventional habitability zone of a central star. Earthlike moon possesing an atmosphere containing methane/carbon dioxide and/or water could well absorb and redistribute heat originating from infrared and visible radiation reflected by its planet and thus the possibility of life presence is more probable.

Does anybody know what is for example the absoulute magnitude of Jupiter when observing from Europa/Ganymede/Callisto?
