Funny how there's a strong correlation between age and standing in the totaled results.
It looks a bit like people like what they saw most recently:)

The only two I actually care about are Back To the Future (mostly because I loved that ending with "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.") and Blade Runner. Those are my one and two. After that, my other picks are sort of random, with some preference to movies I liked unless the car was especially ugly. I suppose the cars in Minority Report were somewhat interesting, though I didn't think much of the movie.

I've seen all the movies, though Freejack barely made an impression.

How could I Robot be leading the pack? Those cars were completely useless.

I would have voted the DeLorean tops, but I can't stand BTTF II.

Keep in mind that it first flew in BTTF. Then again, I liked both movies, but didn't care as much for BTTF III (I like fun "Future" portrayals, but Westerns not so much, and this one had a repeat of many of the same plot elements of the prior movies).

I liked the car in Fifth element.
Gotta have that to avoid heavy traffic during rush hours.

Hey, the police cars from Demolition Man are missing!!! They were the tops!

But, seriously, what can beat Akira's bike?

Modified Austrailian 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon...it looks Slightly smaller than a Torino, and was only available in Austrailia. The blower was hollowed out and had the carb inside on the movie car.

The on-and-off bit to the supercharger wouldn't work as shown in the movie. However, with a modern port injection (where the fuel injectors sit right in front of the intake valve) or direct injection (where the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder--like on most diesels) setup, it could be made to work by bypassing the blower entirely when it is turned off. This would require an entirely seperate intake system, which would be (IMO) overly complicated.

Personally, I would just use a port injection setup and let the blower run full time....

I don't pay that much attention to cars in science fiction myself, unless they fly or do something really exceptional. Spacecraft on the other hand . . . that I notice.

Good point. I would have picked the land speeder (http://www.starwars.com/databank/vehicle/xp34landspeeder/index.html) over some of those other choices.

KITT from Knight Rider.. or isn't that considered "Sci Fi"?
or how about those oh so futuristic cars in RoboCop? back then, the Ford Taurus was seen as the "car of the future"..

I would have voted the DeLorean tops, but I can't stand BTTF II.
I happened to catch part of BTTF II the other week on TV, and I realized something that kind of threw me for a loop.

You know all that fancy stuff they had in the future - flying cars, holographic movies, bionic implants, weather control, hoverboards? Well, they've only got eight years to get it all to us. 2015 ain't so far in the future anymore.

I know it's considered a fantasy/spoof TV comicbook show...it's certainly not SCI/FI, but, IMO, any list of futuristic cars must include the Barris Batmobile. (http://www.1966batmobile.com/)

...and that's my "Bat"opinion. :)

Heck, give me an SPV - I've always wanted to drive facing backwards via a screen

Atomic engines to power . . . turbines to speed . . . .

Many a happy Saturday afternoon of my childhood was spent watching that show. Now, they play infomercials at that time instead. Poor kids.

Fantastic car. Anyone have the later toy model with the plastic flames going in & out at the back? I used to covet my friend's one as a kid :)

Dang. You're right, of course. It's been a long time since I've seen it. And it's not out on DVD. (All the Full House you can stomach and then some, but not China Beach or Batman.) Though I did give a friend of mine (he posted for a while as Darth Yarr) the movie for Christmas a couple of years ago.

This (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Movie-Adam-West/dp/B00005LOUK) movie?? :)

BTW...there is a hilarious commentary on that DVD featuring Adam West and Burt Ward.

...and who could forget Batman trying to dispose of a bomb...and being thwarted at every turn by a group of nuns, a flock of ducks and a salvation army "style" marching band.

Indeed yes. We're supposed to watch it together, with commentary, at some point, but since he works nights in Seattle, he doesn't have a lot of spare time at the moment.

Sorry this thread is being "4wheelist" what about the bikes;)

In addition to the mentions of the great bikes in Akira (looks fantastic but according to the performance spec here, http://www.akira2019.com/kaneda_bike.htm it's a bit slow); & Tron (handling looked a bit twitchy to me), I'll continue on the single track with Street Hawk http://www.streethawkonline.com/ & those flying bikes in Galactica 1980 (http://www.universalhartland.com/code/galc21mc.shtml) :shifty:

I would rather have a Speeder bike though - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speeder_bike :)

SUPERCAR

Supercar... Supercar...
With beauty and grace, as swift as can be,
watch it flying through the air!
It travels in Space, or under the sea,
and it can journey anywhere!
Supercar! Supercar!
It travels on land, or roams the skies,
through a heaven's stormy rage.
It's Mercury manned, and everyone cries,
"It's the marvel of the age!"
Supercar! Supercar!
SUPERCAR!
