I remain perplexed as to why the accretion ring of a true black hole should assume the geometry of a ring, rather than as a three dimensional vortex. The jets we see escaping from the poles of a 'black hole' are evidence of just that: Poles. If matter is accreting in a ring, shouldn't the acceleration of particles be tangent to the shape of the ring? Why would particles with great momentum shoot out at 90 deg angles from the plane of acceleration/accretion? What aspect of GR allows for this funky redistribution of momentum?
