View Full Version : The Clone

I came across a PHP clone of the BABB. Itīs interesting that itīs theme is opposed to that of our science-focused forum; it deals with superstition. Itīs weird to see our familiar GUI displaying posts about witchcraft, new age, crystals, etc, etc, etc...

Take a look.

I think there's some sort of moral here about how technology is ethically neutral and can be used for good or evil. ;)

Weird. At the bottom, where our board says Powered by phpBB (and of course copyrighted by the phpBB Group), it just says Powered by php (and copyright OccultForums.com). That makes me think that the OF is a knockoff of phpBB's work, rather than they both being clones of some other previous software.

PS: Well, I'll be d*rned. Included in the page code below their copyright notice is this comment:

We request you retain the full copyright notice below including the link to www.phpbb.com. This not only gives respect to the large amount of time given freely by the developers but also helps build interest, traffic and use of phpBB 2.0. If you cannot (for good reason) retain the full copyright we request you at least leave in place the Powered by phpBB 2.0.2 line, with phpBB linked to www.phpbb.com. If you refuse to include even this then support on our forums may be affected. The phpBB Group : 2002

Someone will be talking to 'em soon, I betcha.

I sent off an email to phpBB, see what they think of it. Maybe OF has permission or a license of some sort.

What's creepy is cruising through the forums and finding really sincere questions like: Is it possible to be both a traditional Satanist and a modern Satanist at the same time? And people have opinions on that topic! Strange place.

Weird. Well you never know what people believe out there.

I have no problem with a board like that. Well, unless they start telling people herbs and regular meds are o.k. to take without doctor consultation and homeopathy works better then medicine. Than i get problems with that board.

Added: it seems to be a mix of the rational, the "just having fun", and the "out there" people. I skimmed a few threads, it looks to be moderated to a good bit and that they do discuss the topics instead of just nod and smile like other boards do.

Are you sure plagerism has occured here rather than just some other site using phpBB? It is freely available.

Is that question for me?

I dunno, why would they not put the Powered by phpBB line in?

That site reeks of EVIL or is it just because nobody has opened a window since the dark ages.
It is like a Mirror Universe version of this board.

Apparently when pendulums don't work it is because they "charge down" and then they can recharge by just resting.

Anyone who uses phpBB is obliged to put in the "powered by" thing. One hell of a lot of forums use it- my personal stomping ground Rllmuk, and its predecessor Murofegde, used it.

*skims through some of the threads, uhg*

"Curses work on many levels, the magickal ones are actually very powerful indeed, the basis of them(in my opinion) is the whole butterfly effect(im sure everyone knows about it)."

They can't even spell "magical" correctly.

"I've done that before misinterpreted something. It could have been the affects a Mercury or one of the other planets being in retrograde."

I think that most of these people are just bored and live in a mining town somehwere in South Dakota. Nothing to do so let's practice Astrology and Satanism. Whee! -Colt

Well they could mine something. :-)

What i don't understand is how people can believe so furvently in Astrology (trying to bring this somewhere near space. :-) ). There is no way that planets can effect your mental state and especially your future.

Just the fact that you will find someone who acts just like you but was born at a different time of the year.

The whole Astrology charts is the same thing that John Edwards does with certain gewneral statements that swithc between each sign. One month this sign will be "Good for finding a mate" and the next month it will be some other. IT is just a round table that changes things arounbd every once in a while.

The first posters were from NY, and a couple of them claim to be from San Antonio and Indianapolis, some from the UK, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The posters with the most posts are from the UK, Utah, California, NY, SC, and Iowa.

Magick and Magickal (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=magick) are real words. The 70's animated Star Trek series actually had an episode titled "The Magicks of Megas-Tu" (http://www.startrek.com/library/anim/22009.asp)

Hey, hey, hey! Don't be talking smack about South Dakota, now. Just because we unleashed Tom Daschle on the country is no reason to be mean.

Well, okay, maybe it is . . .

Are you sure? I always thought they'd stick a ck (sometimes just a k) into any of this "gothic(k)" crap just because it makes it feel older, or more "authentic", because they think it's related to the German spelling.
Strange thing is, in German a word looks more ancient if you spell it with "c" instead of k (that's why we still have "Circus something" when the modern spelling would be "Zirkus"). ;)
Wierd, if you ask me.

I agree with you on this one wholly. Same thing about "modern vampires", they like spelling it like "vampyre" (IIRC) to somehow differentiate it.

I was being sarcastic about the South Dakota thing. Tring to illustrate that most of these people have nothing to do so they play Witch.

Merriam-Webster (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=magick) says that "magick" is not a real word and they are the ones I go by. -Colt

The word magick was invented by a 19th century mysticist. (I don't remember his name.)
Originally, it was reserved for sexual magic; the k was a phallic symbol, I think.

I stopped once I got to Artemis19 (vs Archer17). Creepy. :o

Hmmm...and air diet. Your explanation makes sense. Not to mention that you are also working the muscles of your diaphragm more.

But i think exercizing would be a better way to loose weight.

Even scarier, there might be a "Astrology Conspiracies" forum and you'd have to debate against the Mirror Universe version of JayUtah and JimO - they might actually convince you astrology works! :o
