Galaxies aren't born, they evolve, getting built up through a succession of mergers over billions of years. In most cases, this process is slow and steady, with galaxies tearing apart their satellite neighbours and gaining mass. ...

This cluster of galaxies is 5 billion light-years away.. meaning this collision happend 5 billion years ago.. I wonder what it will look like today.

These merger scenarios from 'look at the pic' and do some interpretation, are always very problematic as a way to develope galaxy evolution models ;)

It would seem, that since all the galaxies are IN clusters, that after 13 billion + years, they should have all merged by now. Or ALL be a lot closer together.

If all the gases gravitated together, why are the galaxies so far apart in the cluster and traveling so fast, and before the acceleration of the universe, how could all the Dynamics of expansion happen in the Voids between the galaxy clusters? These are retorical.

We four galaxies have come from the four corners of the Universe, to merge into one of the biggest galaxies by the end of the universe, at the time of the Universal Crunch.

Even though the universe is expanding somehow, maybe not literally but surely mathematically, we have decided to come together and merge.

There was a big bang but we knew not which direction we were born unto, so we went....

I being west, went westward and traveled for 6 billion and four score years before getting the telegram from my brothers saying "Come home for a family merging"!

As you can see, it has been a long journey to the end of the beginning.

Do actual stars ever collide in these collisions?

Do actual stars ever collide in these collisions?
Rarely if ever.
