Someone once said there's one born every minute. Seems as though with the Internet that would apply to the rate of creation of snake oil sites.

Here's a beauty:

Life Technology (http://www.lifetechnology.org/)

Pay particular attention to this outstanding product:

The Tesla Shield (http://www.lifetechnology.org/teslashield.htm)

Anyone else know of similar "advanced"* websites?

I try to stay away from those, but I know that this one has been discussed.

This never actually happened, just something that popped up in a few conversations... One of my best friends had this idea of starting a website selling nothing. As in you order the nothing, you have the option of paying in nothing money or real money and then you get...nothing. The FAQ of the site was going to have things like Q:"What happens if my nothing arrives while I'm not at home?" A:"It doesn't matter man, it's just nothing!" The sad thing is, I actually think there would have been some people buying nothing off him if he had done it. Some people will buy anything these days...

Haha, never too early to think ahead. There's another instance of ridiculous purchases that comes to mind but this wasn't a web site, this was in real life. In the canteen in my college they have the usual small packets of salt that you get with food. Right, once we found the whole basket of them consisted of the perfectly manufactured and sealed packets...with no salt in them!!! Not a grain. They just forgot to add the useful product, even if they made the fancy packaging perfectly!

No breaks for snakes! :(
Real snake oil may actually have some health benefits, especially when it is made from the Chinese water snake...

My understanding is that Snake Oil is the oil to use when sauteing armadillo. But I can userstand that Texas cuisine isn't everybody's cup of tea.

(:shifty: Wow, that was bizzare even for me)

Only if it's rattlesnake oil.
Taxes Rat Snake oil is too free running and leaves a bitter flavor whereas rattlesnake oil allows a smooth easy sautee with a smokey flavor.

Here (http://www.magicaltransformations.com/quantumphysics-s.htm) is another site I posted about some time ago.

One of the most exciting discoveries of Quantum Physics, is the whole concept that it is our thoughts, and not just our actions that create our reality. Even though most people believe that it is what they DO or do not do that is creating their reality, quantum physics has actually revealed that it is the thoughts of our subconscious mind that is creating our experience of life.

Emphasis theirs.

wiseGEEK (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-snake-oil.htm)The most popular oil comes from the silver Chinese water snake. This snake's Chinese nickname is "The Silver Bullet" or, in phonetic Chinese, "qie coorszi".

There is a shop in the UK called lush, which amongst its various funny smelling soap stuff sells actual snake oil (well, its labelled as such).

Not sure I'd qualify them as snake-oil salesmen though, seeing as their soap does actually seem to be soap.

I wouldn't know. I'll be a few in the province of Myanmar might, though...

I caught this story on MSNBC
HULA CHAIR: SITTING DOWN GETS DANGEROUS (http://doesitwork.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/05/1118057.aspx)
It's about a chair that rotates so you can sit relax and get a workout at the same time.

But; that story wasn't funny enough. They advertise it as being featured on the tonight show.
I'd love to see that feature. I doubt it was featured well. In fact, the ad has the Ellen show clip. I think the company thinks it's good to show how "fun" the chair is, but Ellen just makes a complete farce of it.

This is really just hypnosis/power of positive thinking, which can help people who for whatever reason have come to a state of learned helplessness, where they see the circumstances of their lives controlled by outsiders or outside events, emphasize only the negative about themselves, and are unaware of their own strengths. It's just psychology/self help appropriating the language of science.

The screensaver is called hyperspace, you can get it here:
