Some of the most extreme objects that we know of in the Universe are magnetars. These are small neutron stars with insanely powerful magnetic fields - they could erase your credit cards from millions of kilometres away. ...

These little beasts are worth keeping an eye. What will happen next?

Wouldn't it be cool if jets of primal gas started spewing out of the poles?

What do you mean by "primal gas"?

Hydrogen, maser - pick your poison. Jets have amazing, knotted structure that is almost certainly due to kinky magnetic fields. I would love to see a jet form, and the only real hope of seeing that is if it unfolds from a small center, such as this.

This is my own guess and I admit its amateurish but that is what I am. From recent evidence that the virtual strange sea is what causes magnetic fields in baryons, I will take a crack at the increasing density pressure as causing the number of strange/antistrange quarks to increase at an alarming rate in this beast. The strange sea might then react, producing an enormous field.
