The gravitational field between the two black holes was so strong that it had never been possible to test Albert Einstein's theory of General Relativity in such an extreme situation.

It's interesting to note that the little black hole orbiting the big one is about 25 times more massive than Sgr A*, which is the massive black hole at the center of our galaxy. The big one is about 200 times more massive than the little one.
