I put this up on the apollo BB when the BABB was down. I thought for sure someone else would have posted it here. This is the weirdest solar flare shape I've ever seen.

The spaceweather.com site said we were hit by a 'glancing blow' I assume from this flare since I didn't see any other candidates. Then they said it 'didn't trigger widespread auroras'. Then they had to eat their words. We had a storm that reached 'severe' briefly and has been 'moderate' since last night.

I set up my scope to see Mars, the aurora showed up, two late meteors passed overhead, it was a great night. 8)

BTW, doesn't it kind of look like Einstein?

That was my first thought as well. Sam Clemens was my second.

I thought it looked like the grasshoppers from Quatermass and the Pit. Weird--better than Rorschach blots.

Yeah! Like one of those long, snaky dragons in a Chinese New Year celebration that has a bunch of people inside making it move around (and avoiding the firecrackers).

I'm just going to bump this once so more people can get a look at the crazy thing. I just think it is so weird.

No comments necessary.

My first thought was that it looked like those things that came out of the Ark of the Covenant in the first Indiana Jones movie.

So your photo is really nothing special.

Yeah, but Truth Seeker's prominence looks more like an egg beater.

My goodness, and I'm always getting accused of taking things too seriously. . . .

Neb, even if you take something seriously, you aren't weird.

Actually, I'd say truthseeker's flare looks like a crayfish. I don't understand the comment but the BA banned him so it must not have been nice. :(

I think truth seeker got banned on another thread, but for the body of his work. Good riddance.

The History of Truth Seeker Vol. 1

Truth Seeker showed up at the BABB and started off by being forgivably rude. He then went on to make a totally ignorant insult about Stephen Hawking that nearly got him banned, but The BA 8) showed kindness and mercy. Then, TS left for about 10 days. When he returned, he was pretending to have changed from a PXer to a rational thinker, but it was obvious from his tag line and his posts that it was just a scam. When I pointed out repreatedly that I did not think he was sincere, he became irate and rude. (Actually the day before I called him out, he posted an uncalled for insult about Nancy that was the ultimate cause of his ban.) Soon after I questioned his sincerity, he bgan posting Lens Flare spam and other junk posts... I think he knew his time was running out. Strangely, the whole time, he tried to act like a victim...hmmm. Anyhow, the story of Truth Seeker ends with his ban from the BABB. Bye bye Truth Seeker, I won't miss you....

You know it looks a little like the chicken lady from The Kids in the hall.
