View Full Version : Rare Atlantis launch video (moon)

I shot this video several years ago of the shuttle "Atlantis" launch, from my workplace in Orlando, FL. To our amazement, as it ascended, it passed directly over the moon. I posted it at revver.com. You can find it by typing "atlantis moon" in their search bar. We were so excited. We tried to deliver it to some of the local TV stations, but they all told us that they have enough shuttle footage. I think if they had seen this, they might have changed their minds.

First, welcome to BAUT!
Second that's a very cool video.
Last, and as added sauce, you caught an aircraft just nipping the edge of the moon and crossing the exhaust. Nice!

BTW, the link is below. New BAUT members can't post links right away.

Thanks for taking a look. I was afraid that people might just think I was trying to trick them into going to some bogus website.

Thank you schlaugh for doing the footwork there.

That was a nice shot. Split the moon like that.

Interesting, there is a censored video and uncensored.
The latter contains some strong language.

That was totally cool! Thanks citobido. AS Neverfly said caution, strong adult language in the uncensored

Yeah that was sweet. How far away were you from the launch site?

Do you remember what mission or date it was? I want to look for another video of that launch and see if the moon comes out as well.

The date of the launch was Feb. 7, 2001 at 6:13 pm
Here's a wikipedia link with info on the launch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STS-98
There's a pretty cool pic of the launch on there also.
