Interesting... One of those things you might not think is possible.
Frozen vegetables produce sparks in microwave (http://www.wkyc.com/news/national/news_article.aspx?storyid=86292)

In it, the company said: "It would appear in this case the sparking was due to the presence of naturally occurring minerals in the vegetables, like magnesium, iron, zinc and potassium."

And from the video where they demonstrated it, it's not just a random occurance. It seems fairly consistant. (although, I wouldn't put it past them to bury a bit of metal to make an impression for the camera...always the skeptic;))

Point taken...vegetables are bad. I will avoid them from now on.

I had a chemistry professor who put wires at each end of a pickle and lit it up. The sodium in it glowed just like the sodium in street lights at night. I know most of the pickle wasn't sodium, but with the lights off, it was quite easily visible throughout the auditorium anyway. (Ours didn't explode like he said some have.)

Reminds me of a manager who boasted that every time he got the urge to exercise, he'd lie down until the feeling passed.

In addition to using some of them as lights, you can also make batteries from vegetables and fruits (http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/Elec_p029.shtml).

When I put a small amount of green beans into microwave, they always sparkle and char a little. Now I know why!

It's just the microwaves driving the Magic out of the vegetable.

To paraphrase Frank Zappa:

"Nuke" any vegetable,
And the chances are good,
That the vegetable will respond to you.

LOL!

And remember a prune isn't really a vegetable. Cabbage is a vegetable.
Standing there shiny and proud by your side
Holding your hand while the BAUTers decide
Why is a vegetable something to hide?followed immediately by the Invocation & Ritual Dance Of The Young Pumpkin.

...Grandma tried this trick on us about ten years ago...she found out that certain cubed raw vegetables fit nicely in a slingshot and really hurt...
