Some cosmologists argue that the universe is fractal (http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn14200-galaxy-map-hints-at-fractal-universe.html?DCMP=ILC-hmts&nsref=space1_head_Galaxy%20map%20hints%20at%20frac tal%20universe) at very large scales.

I don't know enough about to really say anything, but the article (albeit in one of the more sensationalistic science magazines) seems to be concluding that a good position could be made for the fractality of the universe at large scales. If true, it would be a very important finding.
