Woke up at 3.00 this morning and amazed to see such a great display. Just a shame there wasn't a better vantage point near my house! Photos taken using an Olympus SP650uz set to 100 iso, 1.6 sec, F4.5

A very beautiful silky blanket and color, Excellent capture of this not to often seen cloud illumination, Welldone.

Beautiful image. I'm also at 48 north so I gotta start looking for these! Not often they get this far south but I'm hearing lots of reports. Last night was thunderstorms. Today is full of thermal clouds but they may vanish by evening -- I'll be out fighting the skeeters for a look anyway!

Thks for the comments

First time I'd seen them - and it's unusual to get such a strong display this far south (I'm actually at 52N but they were also visible down on the south coast around 50.50N). Most of the sightings in the UK tend to be from Northern Ireland or Northern England (around 55N) - further north, of course, and the skies are often too light.

Those shots are definitely impressive. Would you consider sending them to one of my favorite sites? http://www.atoptics.co.uk/
