View Full Version : DAWN spacecraft display models?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this.

We've all seen the fancy desktop display models of NASA spacecraft, usually custom made. I've always admired them, but haven't really been too interested in the spacecraft designs themselves of the past years so I have not ventured to buy one.

However, I have long been fascinated by Ceres and feel that the DAWN spacecrafts ability to enter orbit around two different celestial objects makes it a truly groundbreaking vehicle.

Does anyone know where I could get a display model of the DAWN spacecraft? I have searched hig and low, and so far have only found a listing on Ebay for a custom-commission mahogany wood model, that is only built after you order it - thus there is no picture of the completed model. Presumably so you have no way of complaining about the shoddy workmanship if it comes out bad.

Are there any other options? I wish companies like Bandai would make fancy no-paint/no-glue models of spacecraft with the same level of craftsmanship and ease of build that the company is famous for.

Thanks in advance!

I couldn't find any place that sells DAWN models. About the best I could find is a NASA kid's site that shows how to make a paper model (http://dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/DawnKids/activities.asp). However, you could use that as a guide to build your own model from scratch, perhaps something like this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/timeportal/647302706/). How crafty are you?
