Can anyone tell me what this "V" shaped rainbow is in my attached photograph? I captured the image on the 3rd of October, 2008 (yesterday) at 7pm in Winnipeg, Canada. Never seen anything like it!

Found some blog (http://haloreports.blogspot.com/2007/02/moilanen-arc-behaviour.html) about atmospheric phenomena mentioning a "moilanen arc".

Sun dogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog) usually come with a halo, which ocasionally has a "v" shaped thing at the top.

One-stop shopping for all your atmospheric phenomenon needs:

Atmospheric Optics (http://www.atoptics.co.uk/)

Check out:

Atmospheric Optics: Common Ice Halos (http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/common.htm)

Or, more exotic:

Atmospheric Optics: Infrequent Ice Halos (http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/unusual.htm)

I'm no meteorologist, but I think your image is of a tangent arc:

Atmospheric Optics: Common Ice Halos: Tangent Arc (http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/column.htm)

The gull winged arc always touches the 22 halo at a point directly above the sun. Its wings open and then droop as the sun climbs.

But, check Atmospheric Optics: Infrequent Ice Halos: Moilanen Arc (http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/marc.htm)
