From the BBC News site (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/7671896.stm)

Two students from a school in Wiltshire have been taken to hospital after a chemical incident.

It is believed a release of sulphur dioxide gas at Ridgeway School in Wroughton near Swindon affected 90 pupils over three classrooms.

Do you think someone was trying to make Copper Sulphate?

H2SO4 + CuO = CUSO4 + H2O ?

Any other examples like this?

I know high enough concentrations will first blacken your silver fillings then cause them to crumble as it reacts with the mercury. But thats at near lethal concentrations. Heard of it happening to field vulcanologists.
