Sorry if this is a repeat of info; I did search.

Astronauts Add New Bedrooms to Space Station
19 November 2008 12:12 p.m. EST

Astronauts are adding new bedrooms to the International Space Station to help prepare the outpost for larger crews next year.

A portside astronaut sleeping chamber is being installed inside the station right now, with a starboard one to be added later today. The two new bedrooms, each with the interior space of a large refrigerator or closet, are part of the extreme makeover under way at the station by space shuttle Endeavour astronauts.

Extreme Makeover, huh? I can see Ty Pennington there now -- complete with bullhorn.

Interior space of a large 'fridge or closet... :shifty: I'd be too claustrophobic for that.

Wow; what did you search for? "cylindrical aluminum?"
There's actually a few threads on this mission and the expansion of the ISS. Including Extreme Makeover references (apparently my..."pilot, move that shuttle" joke wasn't very funny)

BTW: Linky?

It was funny. It's just not the same when you don't have the whole neighbourhood (in case of the ISS: nobody at all...) screaming and yelling it, to make the program even more an attack on the senses than it already is with its overenthusiastic host.

That's what "they" want you to think.

The whole world is the ISS's neighborhood.

How did you know?? :shifty: (joking)

Aw, where's the sense of humor? I was going to post something like that, lol!

BTW: Linky?

I searched with "ISS" (did see current mission thread but wasn't sure it'd be appropriate to post there) and also searched "bedrooms."

Link...um. It's been a long day on the computer and that was hours ago. Sorry. Space.com, IIRC. :)

Just for completeness

STS 126 thread (http://www.bautforum.com/space-exploration/79545-sts-126-shuttle-mission.html)
Launch video thread (http://www.bautforum.com/space-exploration/81305-nov-14-2008-space-shuttle-endeavor-launch.html)

And NEOWatcher, I liked your joke, but didn't feel a need to post a LoL. Sorry.

No worse than a small tent. I would find it nice and cosy.

And you don' even get nightly visits by hedgehogs, plus it's not 35C inside by 5'o clock in the morning, while it was freezing by the time you got inside. Sounds good to me.

I usually don't either, unless it's in connection to another post*. I try to keep threads from getting burdensome (Although, at times, the urge is too great)

...Sorry.
Hey; no need. Just out looking for a bit of selfish self pity. I'm out of shape, so it's hard to reach my back for patting.

*EDIT: Meaning posting a response with another relevant thought

Space.com: Astronauts Add New Bedrooms to Space Station (http://www.space.com/spaceshuttle/) (19 November 2008 12:12 p.m. EST)

A closet seems spacious enough to me. It's just a nook to hold a sleeping bag. A 3-by-3-by-2-meter bedroom would be quite a bit more than enough. They don't need a four-poster bed and mattress, dresser, nightstand. Here's astronaut Dan Tani ready to sleep (http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/gallery/images/station/crew-16/html/iss016e013098.html) in the large Quest airlock, acclimating prior to a next-day EVA, showing how little room is really needed:

Why blindfold the other astronauts? Can't they sleep with the light on?

I guess we won't be seeing Star Trek type sleeping quarters anytime soon.

Well, I still have some hope that Bigelow will come thru on that.:)

He won't. To maximise profit he will pack them in like sardines.

There's a picture of two people moving a newly delivered crew quarters in Universe Today: Good News and Great Pictures from STS-126 (http://www.universetoday.com/2008/11/26/good-news-and-great-pictures-from-sts-126/) (specific image (http://www.universetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/sts126-rack-580x396.jpg)). It looks like a tall coffin.

No, they are not bedrooms as in hotel bedrooms, they are for the (increased) crew. Can't book a trip yet! Unless you're really, really rich, but then you probably wouldn't spend time to spend here on BAUT. :)

I thought it had to due with retiring the Shuttle and how most of the planned Soyuz seats would be full...
