The world as we know it goes on to live another year.

Endeavor. The world is in no danger from the LHC, any more than it's in danger from the daily bombardment by cosmic rays of far greater energy. A hippo does not swallow the sun at sunset , mermaids do not lure sailors to their deaths, the world is not flat, flying dragons do not breathe fire, there is no hollow earth civilization, the sun has no iron core, twenty league boots don't exist, Nessie is looking pretty iffy, as is Champ, Ogopogo, Bigfoot, and the Yeti.
Bigger issues are Ebola, West Nile, SARS, lectins in your potatoes, BT corn, global warming, tobacco, cocaine, heroin, malaria, and uranium enrichment by zealots....worry about the things you can work on.
