Up to 108 now.

In a lot of those areas the temperature got up to 48degC - that's 118degF - with winds at 100kph. I have family friends who survived in a purpose built fire bunker. Everything they owned was destroyed and a lot of their friends died. Entire towns have literally been wiped off the map. At Marysville, everything was destroyed except a bakery and the two (very lucky) horses stabled there.

Unfortunately, a lot of the people who died were those who gave up trying to defend their homes and decided to flee by road. Most of the dead have been found in cars rather than in their homes. The pictures of burnt out cars on the roads are horrfic.

Some of the fires look to be deliberately lit.

The worst bushfires in recorded history, even worse than the Ash Wednesday bushfires of 1983 ...
