Wow. That's probably a real career-breaker for some unlucky soul at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Huge loss of "face".

That's bad luck. However Mars has had more than its fair share of missions fail (lots by the former Soviet Union, a few by NASA) so the Japanese are just the latest to join the real solar system with real problems.

I'm sure that they'll try again, with double and quadruple the checks of Noizumi....

Looks like a solar flare is the culprit. Short-circuit due to overload.

It did get a cool picture of a crescent Earth/Moon.
