I don't know about this. For one thing no females have posted their pictures. Your statement might be an unfair overgeneralization based on insufficient data.

Oh and all women are in their 20 somethings too.

You theory is questionnable. By your logic, it would mean that 30 years ago there were no females. However the existence of females has been documented back in 1970 or thereabouts.

Unless of course all females older than a few days disappeared from the face of the earth in 1970.

Otherwise your theory leads us to a "chicken before the egg" problem that cannot be solved.

Yes, even you Gethen. :-)
You left out the "1" before "20". :D

I'm originally from Germany, but I've lived most of my life in San Antonio. As far as being a student, I attend Park University (which is actually based in Missouri, but offers a CS degree at the Lackland AFB branch) and San Antonio College. I personally can't wait to move away from San Antonio (been here too long :P). I wouldn't mind moving to Austin or even Houston (to work for NASA), but that won't happen until I finish my CS degree.

I have an Olympus Stylus 300 for about $350. It seems to be prettygood for the $$. Good optics, 3.2 megapixel. I am happy with it...

There is now a Stylus 400 for about $50.00 more that is 4.0 megapixel.

Abso[beeping]lutely. Ticketmaster prevents fans from directly buying tickets. All of the tix go to resellers who sell them at ridiculous prices. Last year, I tried to get Phish tix, but couldn't get on to the Ticketmaster site (10 friends of mine had the same problem). Literally 5 minutes later, resellers were hucking $35 tickets for $700.

Not to hijack a thread, but, pretty much ditto! I'm the first person in line at a local TM office, my request goes in litterally seconds after the hour. And I'm in the like the 48th row in the upper Pavillion. No way any of those lower Pavillion tickets ever were available to the public. And the authorities make a huge fuss over scalpers but there are dozens of companies that can offer you your "dream seats" if you got the cash.

Oh goodness, I'm off on a rant. We now return you to the regular scheduled picture thread:

I don't have a server to upload to either. So I guess, imagine Riff Raff from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

:D

They were in this case. They were taken by the university for publicity purposes. We only had part of the experiment set up and the laser power was turned way up so that the beam could be seen. As it was we had to hold completely still (~2 second exposure), and the photographers had a keyboard duster upside-down to create a mist that the beam would scatter off. Also, if actually were doing the experiment, don't you think I'd have the oscilloscope turned my way so I could see it?

However, I can assure you that the data in the papers is not fake. [-(

If it's giving you the red "x", then it is unable to find the image you are pointing it to. I could be that your hosting provider disallows direct linking to images, or that you have the URL wrong. Does the image display when you type it directly into your web browser? If so, then it should be working.

It was about -25 F but no wind when that was taken. I sometimes left off the parka since the sun provided a lot of warmth.
- Hint: when you remove a bolt from a piece of equipment at that temperature don't hold it with your lips for safe keeping.
- 2nd hint: If it is a small bolt it will probably warm up enough to unfreeze from your skin before frost bite sets in.

IMO FODS #831

Just one question, though: If it's the "Boeing Team Tech Competition", why are their advisors from Lockheed-Martin? :D

Boeing just folked up the money to sponsor the event.

I want to post my pic on the site directly, but how?

First you need to find a web site to host the picture for you, such as Shutterfly.com. Once you have the picture uploaded, right click on it, go to properties, and copy the URL. Then type put the url here and the picture will appear on your post. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Can someone tell me how to store a scanned (non digital) image onto your computer, then transfer that to a website, like the shutterfly.com website space cadet recommended? My computer knowledge is severly lacking. :D

I guess I'll add my mug to the collection (and yes, that's a whole bunch of grey in the beard) :-?

This is from the website of one of the bands I'm in. My piece of the site can be found here (http://www.wetmoreband.com/frank.html) for any that may be interested.

Edited to change image to link (bandwidth concern)

Can someone tell me how to store a scanned (non digital) image onto your computer, then transfer that to a website, like the shutterfly.com website space cadet recommended? My computer knowledge is severly lacking. :D

Okay, first, put the photograph in the scanner (assuming you have one. If not, use a friend's and then either save it on a zip disk or burn it to CD.) Then push the "scan" button on the scanner. When you do this, a window should pop up on your computer with a list of options.

When you have adjusted the options the way you want (size, resolution, etc.) click on "save as" and select the place you want to save your picture to. If you choose to save the picture to your hard drive (or C drive) make sure you remember what folder you put it in, and give it a name that you can easily recognize. Better yet, instead of saving it to a folder, just save the picture file to your desktop so it will be easy to find.

Make sure the file isn't too big; if it's too big shutterfly.com won't be able to accept it. You can keep your file small by selecting a small size and resolution during the scanning process.

Once you have your picture on your desktop, get an account at Shutterfly.com. To do this, go to shutterfly.com, select the big orange "sign up" button, and then enter your email address and password. Then push the orange "join now" button.

Select "add pictures" and type in your password, then click the blue "next" button in the upper righthand corner.

The site will then ask you if you want to install a program to make uploading pictures easier. Go ahead and install it if you like; I've never had any problems with it and it only takes a few minutes/seconds depending on what kind of internet connection you have.

A "choose pictures" folder will then pop up on your screen. Select the picture (or pictures) you want and then click "add selected pictures."
It may take a few minutes for the pictures to upload. (I hope you have a good, fast connection. Otherwise it's probably not worth the trouble.)

When the picture is done uploading, click "view pictures." Click on the thumbnail once to enlarge it, then right-click on the image, go to "properties" and highlight the URL and right-click again. Select "copy."

Finally, go to the bad astronomy site and paste the URL between

:) You got all that? Don't worry, it's not as complicated as it sounds.

there's only one way to find out.

scanning and saving the picture to your hard drive shoudn't take too long, provided you have a decent amount of ram. But uploading it to the site could take anywhere from a half hour to three hours, depending on the size of the file.

It shouldn't take much longer than how long it takes to download other peoples's pictures. If he's reading BABB OK, without falling asleep, there should be no problem--if he doesn't try to make it larger, or higher resolution than everybody elses.

That's me....minus the pocket protector. I have an old strat, a newer model Ibanez, a Dean steel string acoustic, and a Fender classical. I mostly play classical and renaissance guitar now because it gives me more a chance to play a "full" song, as opposed to needing a band. I even have an album that I made! We'll, it's more like a demo, but it's still my songs!

The smilies were inspired by the original "Happy Face" which was yellow. I'm guessing that the color yellow was chosen because of its association with sunshine. Of course that is only a cultural association between yellow and the color of the Sun, we know that sunlight is actually white.

The Sun ain't yellow, it's chicken!

Before: (10 yrs. ago; when I was still fit, cranky and reasonably undamaged - was taken about 6 weeks before my little parachute malfunction.)

And after: Just taken now - still in me work clothes. Not so fit; not so cranky; and a lot more damaged. ;)
