I just ordered a set of the new Canadian postage stamps commemorating the International Year of Astronomy. They feature images from the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope on Mauna Kea, with sheet surroundings from HST images. After registering, they can be ordered from www.canadapost.ca (registering took about four days - there was a message about a large volume of collectors' orders).

Are there other IYA issues? There was an albumfull of releases for Halley's passage in 1986, but this is the first issue for this theme that I've run across.

Are there other IYA issues? Yes, heliochromology has been left out of the IAU meetings and.... Oh, you mean stamps. ;)

Would you like some Texas envelopes to go with your new huge stamp? I'm glad they didn't choose the more notorious region nearby in the Carina. ;) [/corn]

You can find three issues here (http://www.bmclean.co.uk/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=Astronomy+2009): Iceland and Europe (2). [Yikes, 15 pounds seems high priced for Iceland. Is the postal service by dog sleds? ;)]

There is another for the Isle of Man (http://cddstamps.blogspot.com/2009/04/isle-of-man-and-iceland-iya-2009.html).
