Mars is weird!

This may have been posted before but it was new to me. I found this site called "Mars Unearthed" that is worth a look. It includes a big collection of interesting and strange Mars surface features from MOC images. Some make you go "Cool!". Some make you go "Hmmm...". And some make you go "What the heck am I looking at?" Enjoy!

I had seen that before. the author (who appears to be deceased) collected a nice images of some very very odd terrain, plus some very nice animations. Unfortunately, like many enthusiasts, he tends to the woo-woo in some extrapolations, but I still find it interesting.

It amazes me that someone can go to a lot of effort locating all sorts of interesting features on Mars that provoke genuine thought and then still appears to have believed the face is a face.

Jon,

He does not claim anything about the face as far as I can tell, he just references to it by its most commonly known name "the face" on mars.

I had a good time skimming through hundreds of his better selections of photos - but none made me feel like I was looking at some kind of long gone mars intelligence...however I felt genuine curiosity and excitement about many ,which showed for example geisers with steamclouds (very very convincing...), and seasonally changing colors/patterns that might indicate forms of bacteria or plants growing. It's time NASA spent some money going to the poles with a rover-style vehicle, yet nuclear powered. (Light at the poles is scarce)

Interesting site. Look at this gif animation of a dust devil's track (http://www.marsunearthed.com/Spec/Spec_06/SyriaPlanumDDevil_Ani.htm)

There is a bit of woo-wooism on this site along the lines of MOC images show giant fungi and "NASA knows."

I say =D> for showing a beautiful collection of images most woo-woos would wet themselves over, without forcing any agenda upon us. Very few of the images have any comments at all, just the odd overlay along the lines of 'oh cool, look at this' (http://www.marsunearthed.com/SelectedImages/TerraMeridianiObjects/TerraMeridianiObjects.htm)

I think some of his names like Inca City (http://www.marsunearthed.com/SelectedImages/016/016.htm) are more evocative descriptions than genuine belief that it is an Incan City.

Only been lurking here for a little while now... But can someone explain to me what "woo-woo" means?

woo-woo is a general term for a conspiracist. Only it has no inference of intelligence.

I'm convinced these "woo-woos" are a subset of the same population that provided certain members of the audiences of daytime TV talk shows during the 1970s.

They're the ones that, when the invited pseudoscientist revealed a metal bracelet that allowed her to contact telepathically the denizens of Altair 4, all went "woo! woo! woo! woo!" while the others applauded and cheered, and a few whistled.

Haven't seen much daytime TV in the past decade or so, is this still going on? :)

I agree. One thing I liked about the site was it didn't try to draw conclusions. It just presented unusual and interesting images and let the viewer draw his own conclusions. I don't think, based on the site, that you can really conclude that the creator holds woo woo beliefs.
