I'm reminded of a recent episode of NOVA, where a number of emminant physicists/cosmologists/scientists were ask to describe a black hole for a sound bite. The most consistant reply was "well, erm, uh...."

Actually, to clarify my original comment, they were asked to describe what was inside the black hole. Subtle but important difference! :)
