How do you know it's a ridiculous claim?

Maybe the world WILL end in 2012.

I'll let you all know if it didn't on January 1, 2013. :p

If they really thought the world was going to end in 2012, would they bother spending their last years making a movie about it?

This is just plain ridiculous; and, if you ask me, a pretty darn good sign of what's wrong with the world today. Kicks, advertisement, and money are more important than trying to be accurate, and this is the extreme; purposefully lying in a mass quantity to make more money.

Actually, we "smart" folks should see this as a way to "cash in," and further the goal of space exploration! We should start selling seats on escape ships (using the money to fund space based ventures, thus enabling us to avoid the wrath of the law, of course) and setting up companies to buy the worldly possessions (on the cheap) of those folks who think its all going to be wiped out and want to be "ready" for when everything goes down the crapper, and then resale the stuff for big profits (and use that, again, to fund space ventures).

Meh. Just wait for the movie to come out.

After people see that, I pity the Woo that tries to be taken seriously spouting off about 2012....
